On Wednesday, March 4, 2020, Reel Works, The NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment and CUNY convened the second MediaMKRS Advisory Council Meeting to celebrate the successful launch of our partnership to train, credential and prepare talented young New Yorkers for careers in media.

Over 50 industry representatives from companies such as ViacomCBS, Netflix, HBO, AMC Networks and AT&T as well as the I.A.T.S.E film union and our education and nonprofit partners attended the meeting and pledged to work with us to further build a more inclusive workforce in the media and entertainment industry.

  • New job training partnerships with I.A.T.S.E, Netflix & HBO.

  • 150 paid media internships for high school, CUNY and opportunity youth.

  • Employer-driven workforce readiness standards for careers in media.

The meeting began with welcoming remarks from Alia Jones Harvey of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. Angie Kamath, University Dean, Continuing Education and Workforce Development at CUNY called employers to take action in supporting CUNY graduates.

Six MediaMKRS graduates - including interns at Jax Media, NBCUniversal and two recent graduates of the IATSE Studio Mechanics Boot Camp helped lead a discussion on how employers can create inclusive and equitable work environments to support diversity.

Thanks to ViacomCBS for hosting the event.
